I was just thinking how very sad it is that the world forces his impossible standards upon us, many times overshadowing the gifts that God has given us. Look at Peggy of Mad Men. She's tidy though plain by the world's standards, but she's one smart cookie. She even got herself a job writing copy. But the fact that she doesn't measure up to men's current (and ever changing) physical ideal still plagues her at times. It stifles us. Look around you. Every one of you has a beautiful, unique gift that God put inside of YOU specifically. Yet because the vast majority of us don't look like a 20th century ( it's 1962, right?) gal is supposed to, we have to work extra hard not to be overlooked by others and to not let society's standards lower our own self-esteem.

It certainly is hard out there for a pimp.

I went to go see an Asian film tonight called Thirst at this big film festival, Pusan West, that my grad school is hosting. What an odd picture. All that blood! And those dreadful slurping sounds! The sound designer needs a spanking. And not the good kind.

Anyway, the storyline was pretty incoherent at times. I'm not a fan of Japanese cinema anyway, but this sort of solidified it for me. Park Chan-wook (Thirst) is a wonderful visual director, though. Beautiful cinematography. Maybe I'll try some Won Kar-wai before I completely give up?
